Back to school

As you all know the wonderful time of the year is back! No more swimming pools and wet rides at theme parks. So now what?

Well now you can get rid of those braids that you have been wearing all summer. Time to fresh'n up with a good deep conditioner and trim. Future plans brewing!!

Greetings beautiful ones!

After reading a blog of one of my fellow artist friends...I've decided that I'm going to revisit the idea of getting my own space.

Now don't panic! This is something that requires planning and more planning. Not to mention money. However my purposed plan is to get a space large enough to have two-four chairs (four being very optimistic). Honestly I'm not even sure I would want all four filled lol.

Anyway back to what I was saying, a space large enough for a small boutique salon with a open airy studio in the back.

Why a studio? Well for those of you who don't know me very well I am a visual artist. (Although I can't imagine who doesn't know this about me already)

Why both? Well lets just say that I am a creative force that needs to expand in order to accomplish my goals.

So currently I am putting together a plan, and as you all may have read in my last post you now can book online. This is the first phase of becoming independent of the front desk at the salon. Some of you are now texting me to schedule your appointments, which is fine but the best and more preferred way is online. There you can see the schedule and set up a confirmation reminder that will text you or email you. The appointments you set will notify me on my mobile phone and email.

Now that I am slowly becoming more independent of the front desk. You will get all updates, news, info etc. etc. Right here on my blog via word format or video. This way will allow you to leave feedback in the comment section. Also ask any questions concerning haircare or products.

What Colors compliment your skin type?

When it comes to hair color I often find that not only does complexion play a roll but so many other things factor in. Let's first start with skin tones.
Light skin meaning very fair and most likely doesn't tan. For them dark hair is usually very harsh looking. Especially on older women. However dark can be done in chocolate or natural ash tones. Depending on whether or not the under tones are cool or warm. A light cool blonde on fair skin looks nice.
A golden light complexion that can can tan, really looks nice with either golden or ash tones.
Light Brown complexions can once again go either way depending on under tones. I will explain more on under tones momentarily.
Dark Brown complexions have under tones as well except generally with hair color you can't go as light without it looking unnatural. Colors in the red or red orange family. Also medium browns or dark blondes either in a natural, cool, or gold shade. Lighter high lights can be done but I wouldn't recommend anything over a level 7 for full head of color.

Under tones like I mention before are either warm or cool. However they are four categories; red, blue, green, and yellow. The best way to tell which one you are is to hold the colors to your face in natural lighting and see which one complements your skin tone and which one clashes. You can even see the subtle base color in the underlining color of your complexion. I used true reds, blues, green (olive) and yellow (gold) swatches from your local paint store because they are free.

Color and other chemical services have to also be considered because with multiple chemicals you run the risk of compromise to the hair. Together it can cause some light to extreme shedding depending on the integrity the hair was in prior to color. Permanent color is what I am speaking of... oh and permanent color can at times be drying on certain types of hair.

Examples of red warm are colors like Christmas red or a stop light. Red cool is fuchsia or burgundy. Blue is cold so black, grey, and platinum blonde. Green is ash which is also cool and khaki or olive are to examples of that. However your pale blondes come from ashy green bases. Yellow is warm the term Honey Blonde is a perfect example or the color gold.

After you've discovered the best kind and type of colors suitable for your skin tone and hair type, you now have to take in consideration your budget and your lifestyle. A person with dark roots but has high lift blonde's has to invest more money every 6-8 weeks for color retouch. As with a person with over 75% grey hair. In the case of the lifestyle of a banker or lawyer, they can't seriously wear fuchsia highlights and go to work in a conservative environment.

These are just a few things I sit down and consider when consulting with a client about hair color.

New Looks For the Fall

Hello gorgeous people out there...

October is here and its time to change into to your new fall wardrobe. So its only natural that with new clothes should come new hair. I mean come on lets try some new things. For instance a demi - permanent hair color, it last longer than semi-permanent and is safe enough to apply the same day as relaxer. Also depending on the diameter (thickness) of your hair it can lighten 1-2 levels. Demi-permanent hair colors are an excellent way to try new hair color without the dramatic results of permanent color. It also offers less compromise on the hair. They usually impart shine and great for gray coverage.

Next on the list is weave...

Weave can be used for several different reasons and not just geared towards the hair challenged anymore. Hair weave can be used to add color to someone who isn't quite ready to commit to a chemical color application or has color allergies. Weaves also add fullness and body to limp, fine hair. Not to mention hair weaves are an excellent alternative when you want to take a break from the daily maintenance of haircare. They add variety without the commitment. (OK so a small 8-12 week one). The only thing about hair weave is there are so many types of hair to pick from. You should definitely consult with your professional hair stylist about what would best fit your needs and wants. I recommend you invest in hair that is of high quality if you plan to wear long hair sewn in. Your professional hair stylist can usually help you with acquiring quality hair.

Now that you have some options consult with your stylist and see what best suits you. Also explore other options for new looks this fall. Hair cuts whether a little or alot are always great ways to give your self a new look and are often cheaper than a new wardrobe. High lights can add a little spice in multi levels and shades.
